About Our CompanyGet to know the Team and Founders
Matt and Rebecca Vahlberg have been involved in the camping world since childhood, either as campers, junior counselors, summer staff, leaders, committee or volunteers, and we love it!
They met working on summer staff at Camp Berea, and were married by Ron Ward, the Executive Director at that time. Rebecca grew up in the mountains of New Hampshire and nearby Berea became a second home for her on weekends and in the summer. She would attend summer sessions, work during weekend retreats and find any old excuse to be hanging out around camp.
Matt spent much of his childhood in the woods. He would go on camping trips and backpacking trips as a Boy Scout to places such as the Smokey Mountains and the White Mountains. Ultimately, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow.
He also was involved in Young Life as a teenager, and after college, served for three years as a Young Life leader at Severna Park High School and another three years on Committee for Anne Arundel County, enjoying time with teenagers at Rockbridge, Lake Champion and backpacking in Colorado.
For a living, Matt has spent his career working as a technical manager and software engineer in the industries of utilities, transportation, government and healthcare. He holds a bachelors of science in Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech. Rebecca attended BICS, has spent much of their married life rearing and homeschooling their four boys, and works as a tutor at SRCCHA.
When not working to improve the lives of camps, Matt and Rebecca are spending time with their four boys. Frequent activities include Stockade with Christian Service Brigade, gaga in the backyard, and participating in leadership of their church, SPEP.
Matt and Rebecca are also partners in the local sandwich shop called Park Deli, which is located in Severna Park, MD. If you’re in town, let us know and we’ll meet for the best chicken sandwich, the Chicken Mojo, and milkshake (or frappe) in the county.
